SmartSource Professional UV

Continuing that tradition is a new SmartSource Professional with an optional ultraviolet (UV) or infrared (IR) image camera designed to offer customers fraud protection by identifying suspected fraudulent items. Digital Check-developed technology incorporates UV and IR sensors in the front image camera allowing both the normal black and white and grayscale images as well as a UV or IR image of checks that contain UV or IR security features.

How it Works?

UV or IR enabled checks prevent fraud by making it more difficult to alter checks without disturbing the UV or IR ink that is printed on the check, typically in the most sensitive areas such as the signature area, the codeline, and both the legal and courtesy amount areas. Because the UV or IR ink is highly sensitive to UV or IR light respectively but is virtually invisible under natural light, a UV or IR enabled check that is altered will reveal the alteration even though the physical check under natural light may show no alterations. Likewise, if a high-quality copy of a UV or IR enabled check is presented, the UV or IR ink will be absent on the copy resulting in detection of a suspected fraudulent check.

The SmartSource Professional also includes the capability to scan a variety of documents, such as ATM envelopes and very short pieces of paper (less than three inches [7.6 cm] in length).
